Winter Proofing Your Garage Door
Preparing your garage door for winter could be quite impossible if you don’t have a few ideas on what to do.
First off you want to seal your garage door, where no wind or water can enter. To do this you will have to get perimeter seal this is a 2 inch vinyl strip that nails to the outside of the frame of your garage door and the vinyl will rest up against the garage door sealing the sides and top.
Second to seal your garage door you will need to make sure the bottom weather striping on your garage door is not damaged or cut. If so, you will need to replace it to keep the bugs and mice out as well as the elements of winter.
Third you will need to put a white lithium lubricant, or penetrating oil on all joints and rollers. This will ensure that your door will not be loud nor will it put more strain on the garage door opener. If you have a screw drive garage door opener lubricate the rail with the white lithium grease.
Just keep in mind it’s almost impossible to make your garage door water and air tight.
